I resonate deeply with this. These days, my practice is mainly EMDR, IFS, and somatic work. I deeply love each of these approaches, and especially EMDR where I see the most significant transformations happen for people, through tapping into their own innate healing capacity.
I really appreciate Sarah's point about the difference between formal trauma therapy versus the Instagram-informed trauma work that seems to be ubiquitous these days. I completely agree about knowing the 'rules' or traditional paradigms before deviating from them. A really thoughtful and nuanced perspective, thank you.
As always, thank you for sharing the resonance Vicki <3
I also loved that sentiment about knowing before deviating. As a life-long rule follower it's been terrifying and liberating to deviate with intention lately.
I appreciate this so much, specifically hearing another neurodivergent’s perspective and experience on therapy. I kept nodding along and thinking me and Sarah would be great friends.
Thank you for sharing such a gorgeous conversation and for taking therapy outside the room. This conversation normalized all the twists and turns of my own experiences of therapy.
I love the way you put that "taking therapy outside the room." That is a hope I had but hadn't exactly put those words to it. Thank you for reading and sharing how you connected with it <3 It means so much to me and I know for Sarah, too!
What a beautiful dialogue between the two of you! Sarah’s transparency and honesty about her therapy process and history are so thoughtfully shared and I love your comments that are woven throughout! Your questions are so spot on and I’m hoping that as people share more about their therapy experiences that those who are anxious to begin will see how meaningful and helpful it can be.

And thanks for the footnote link to my Substack 🙏

“to deviate with intention” is a great phrase.

Me too! Me too! Not only that but I have learned so much even from the few of these I've done.
Thank you so much Lindsey! This really warmed my heart to read <3
