Road trip must haves: Chex mix, pringles, watermelon Mike & Ike’s (just discovered these and now my life is complete), tootsie rolls, and Sprees. I enjoyed the realism of so much of Four Seasons, though it’s not light-hearted. Having been through a divorce that none of our friends or acquaintances felt like they saw coming (married 16 years, 2 kids) - I feel certain that someone else’s divorce can be perceived as a serious threat to others. Very much like holding up a mirror. It was easier to ostracize me as a friend, than to think about the fact that it can happen to anyone. And it definitely upset the “balance” of life together as couples and family social events. People had no idea how to handle those changes. It became evident to me that those who were most upset about my divorce were likely those whose relationships also felt a little precarious. My friends with super solid marriages had no trouble stepping forward to support both parties in the divorce.

Watermelon Mike & Ikes!! I had no idea this was a thing and sounds so up my alley.

I really appreciate you sharing your perspective on this and it totally speaks to what I was wondering about. I hope you got the support you needed at the time <3

I just binge watched this recently! It was charming though wildly aspirational. Considering corporate America, who has enough vacation days to take four trips together in a year?! C'mon. Claude, though, OMG Claude. That style! So fabulous. I loved the dialogue in the hiking scene and the line about being co-workers in a nuclear facility. The writer in me was like, do I need to pause it to take notes? This is good stuff! Clearly you thought so, too!

For real!!! Its impossible. I kind of assumed they were all retired, but that doesn't seem to be the case for at least some of them.

Some of the show isn't working for me tonally, but these one off lines have caught me laughing out loud a few times which I have to hand it to anything that can get that out of me.

Tina Fey’s husband composed the music and the fact that it feels a bit off tracks, as imo Tina Fey’s read on a script and a character skews meaner than everyone else’s whenever she’s in an ensemble cast. I went from here and watched the trailer and as predicted, it might be funny for people that are causally mean to their friends and spouses for laughs but it feels dated

After watching all of the episodes, I went back and watched the original movie. It's strikingly true to the original given the difference in eras. Some of the lines are even directly lifted from the original. So your comment about feeling dated is spot on, because it is.

It’s so interesting. We have a lot of teens in our house and they abhor this type of talk and do not find that type of casual cruelty to be entertaining and I really really like them for that (and like that for them)

I love this deep cut Intel on the music. It really felt too jaunty for the circumstances. You've also got me really thinking about this thematically for her characters. I will say in the watching of the show she's not any more harsh than anyone else (so far). Everyone is kind of an asshole and kind of sweet, ha! (But I do agree being casually mean to friends as a theme feels dated and something I'd have an anxiety spiral about for days if I did).

I needed to read this comment. I'm about to chicken out.

I really am loving her so far. I'm only halfway through though so I'm open to having read it all wrong.

This show is a work of art, I just finished it last night. I think the hair is going to look beautiful on you.

I don't think it will blow your mind by any means, but it's got me curious enough to finish.

I almost stopped reading at "watermelons only" but then realized we can still be friends because you'd eat all the yucky watermelons and I could have the rest. Phew, that was close 😅

I liked the show. It gets a bit wacky and wild in the other "seasons," but I do agree with you on the lack of depth of the characters. I wanted more!

It's in fact a perfect marriage of our candy tastes!

I'm so curious to see what you mean by wacky and wild... I'm still only half way through.
