Kaitlyn, sciatica is the WORST so I'm sorry. Things that have helped me -- ice (heat can sometimes initially ease it but it can actually inflame the nerve), acupuncture, yoga (this one is good: https://yogawithadriene.com/yoga-for-sciatica/), and walks.
I did eventually have two steroid injections after years of dealing with it and they were life-changing for me. I hope you're feeling better soon, it can be so consuming to deal with.
Ooo thank you for the YWA video. I will need to do that. I appreciate all these tips! I just started acupuncture for the first time last week and really hoping that will be helpful. The sedentary nature of being a therapist is killing me right now.
Can we start a sciatica support group?? I am newly plagued but seriously suffering this weekend. Good to know about the ice vs heat--I've been living on my heating pad :/. Seeing a doc this week, happy to report back with any tips <3
I'm so sorry you're newly dealing with this, too. It's awful. Report back--hoping it's easily treatable (for all of us, which it seems like there is a lot of us).
Oh good luck with your sciatica. I haven't experienced that, though I vaguely recall from my yoga training that working with releasing the psoas muscle may help. Also, acupuncture has been my go-to for many body-related things. And I wrote about conversations with my frozen shoulder on my Substack this week - listening to when and why the symptoms may have shown up feels important. Take care over there ❤
Thank you, <3 I've just started acupuncture and while the pain is of course not completely gone, I'm already amazed at how much it's helping. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
And you are so right about that. I did some parts work around the part of me "clenching" with the sciatica and oh my goodness did I learn a lot. Off to read about your convo with your frozen shoulder!
My husband has dealt with sciatica, he went to Physical Therapy for about 8 weeks 2 years ago but it flared up again last fall. I know at its worst he felt more comfortable standing than sitting. He tried acupuncture but never did the steroid shots. He also had an ice machine from his knee surgery about 8 years ago and that made icing easier. It’s been really rough at times, I hope you get some relief soon!
Sciatica is NO JOKE. I have a lot of herniated discs in my cervical spine, which is different, but nerve pain in general is THE WORST. I wish I had answers. I’m still in the camp of delaying steroid or epidural injections for my situation. Sending big hugs!
Just a whole bunch of ouch for all of us. I'm hoping if I take it as seriously as I'm feeling it with the care it needs, there will be relief soon (ish).

Will shout any tips I get from the rooftops. It’s nice to know I’m not alone, but such a bummer that we’re all suffering :(
Hope you’re feeling better soon! I spent most of my 20s dealing with it, and it can be so tough mentally.

It’s rough. I’m sorry he’s been thru this, too. I just started acupuncture 🤞🏼🤞🏼
